Modern businesses run on data, and lots of it. When it comes to storing that data, finding a cloud solution that provides the right level of data accessibility while fitting into ever-tighter budgets is critical. Vultr is continually optimizing our cloud platform to provide more capable and affordable solutions for our customers. Our new offering, Vultr Archival Object Storage, is designed to store large volumes of infrequently-used data affordably and securely.
A plethora of cloud storage solutions promise low monthly storage costs for long-term storage but come with key caveats that drive up cloud bills and restrict flexibility. Some charge data retrieval fees just to get your data back. Others have minimum durations, imposing penalties when data is needed sooner than expected. There can be delays in data access, too – not something desirable for situations like a case of disaster recovery.
Vultr Archival Object Storage is designed to be different. Priced at just $6 per terabyte per month, Vultr Archival Object Storage provides instant access to data without retrieval fees or minimum retention requirements. Optimized for data accessed less than once per month, Vultr Archival Object Storage offers pricing predictability, including for egress bandwidth which is charged at $0.01 per GB globally after generous allotments included in each subscription.
A simple to use solution
Deploying Vultr Archival Object Storage is a straightforward process through the Vultr Console or API. Archival buckets can be added to an existing Vultr Object Storage subscription, or can be created as part of a new Vultr Archival Object Storage subscription.
Data already in a Vultr Object Storage Standard tier subscription can be set to move directly into the Archival tier. The cost-efficient architecture behind Vultr Archival Object Storage doesn’t allow direct ingestion for data not already in Vultr Object Storage, so standalone Vultr Archival Object Storage deployments contain an ‘Unarchived’ bucket where data can be uploaded and marked to migrate to the Archival tier.
When requested, data is immediately moved back into the Unarchived or Standard bucket it was migrated from, where it will sit for 7 days until it is automatically restored to the Vultr Archival Object Storage bucket. Data in Vultr Object Storage is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Cost-effective for common use cases
Suitable for a wide variety of typical long-term storage applications including AI training datasets, disaster recovery backups, content and document archives, or application logs and records, Vultr Archival Object Storage is built to store large quantities of data with high availability and durability.
